Arthur David Howard, age 80, of New Castle, Indiana, passed away on August 19, 2024. He was born on September 28, 1943, in Peru, Indiana, to the late Sterling and Myrtle (Johnson) Howard.
Arthur graduated from Peru High School in 1961 before joining the US Army. After his enlistment, Arthur worked as a police officer in Richmond, California, where he gained the moniker “Hollywood Howard.” He spent time as a correctional officer and was ordained as a minister. Arthur was truly a man of many hats.
He was always outgoing and friendly, with a penchant for being ornery. He often showed people an ID with Elvis on it, insisting it was his, just to get a smile. He loved to make friends, and, during his travels, he never knew a stranger.
Arthur enjoyed traveling for fun. He was musically talented and loved playing his guitar, singing, and dancing. He found joy in collecting a variety of rings and jewelry. He also enjoyed telling stories, often regaling people with his exploits during his time in the military. And, despite being a famously picky eater, he loved going to McDonald’s.
He is survived by his loving wife, Helen Howard; sons, Aaron, Ace, and Adam Howard; sister, Shirley Melton; and his brother, Rick Howard.
Along with his parents, Arthur was preceded in death by brothers James, Omer, William “Slim,” Vernon, and Sterling “Tracy” Howard; and his sisters, Agnes Griggs and Gene Brown.
Services for Arthur will be held at 12:00 pm Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle, Indiana. Visitation will be from 10:00 am till the time of the service.
