Barbara Jean “Blackie” Orcutt

Barbara Jean “Blackie” Orcutt, 79, of New Castle passed away Monday, June 26, 2023 at her residence. She was born November 24, 1943 in Kokomo, Indiana to the late Hurbert and Mertie (Hancock) Ballenger.

Blackie had a strong worth ethic and worked at Modernfold for 26 years then for IPT for 13 years. She enjoyed gambling and playing the slots and pull tabs. In her earlier years, Blackie enjoyed spending time at the Twilight and was a Twilight Madam. She was a former member of the Moose Lodge. More than anything, Blackie loved spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by a son, Lewis (Vanessa) Orcutt; special daughter, Ashley (Andrew) Jella; grandchildren, Kasie Guffey, Wayne (Heather) Carpenter and Autumn Orcutt; great grandchildren, Mitchell Jella, Connor Mitchell, James Jella, Ciarah Whittington, Elizabeth and Michael Carpenter; siblings, Doshia Twitty and Esco Ballenger; lifelong best friend, Sherry Wiley and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two daughters, Tammy Jean Guffey and Penny Gay Orcutt; grandson, Charlie Orcutt, a brother, Denton Ballenger and three sisters, Lottie Chick, Rita Guffey and Marlene Jessup.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 29, 2023 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Rev. Jessie Flood officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at South Mound Cemetery at a later date.
