Barbara A. "Bobbie" Saunders

Barbara A. "Bobbie" Saunders, 89, of Oelwein, Iowa and formerly of Henry County, Indiana, died on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at the Oelwein Health Care Center. Barbara Alberta Flowers was born on August 4, 1924 in South Pittsburgh, Tennessee, the daughter of Charles Halford & Mary O'della (Smith) Flowers.

She received her education from the New Castle, Indiana schools. Bobbie was united in marriage to Ardell Saunders, Jr. on August 5, 1942 in New Castle, Indiana. She was a homemaker and lived most of her life in various communities in Indiana and in Davenport, Iowa. The past several years Bobbie shared her time between her daughter in Indiana and her son in Oelwein, Iowa. She was a member of the Westside Church of Christ in Oelwein, Iowa and the Southside Church of Christ in Terre Haute, Indiana. Bobbie enjoyed playing cards and board games and also writing letters.

Barbara is survived by her son: Nick Larry (Lora) Saunders of Oelwein, Iowa; daughter: Vikki Lucinda "Cindy" (Tim) Hall of Terre Haute, Indiana; seven grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; twelve step great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; one step great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents and husband, Ardell on January 20, 2005; four brothers, Charles Jr. in infancy, Herschel, Harold and Marshall; two sisters-in-law, Thelma "Tem" and Martha; several uncles, aunts and cousins.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Tim Hall and Carl Wright officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery in New Castle. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2014 at the funeral home. The family held a private visitation at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein, Iowa. Memorial contributions may be given to the Westside Church of Christ in Oelwein and the Southside Church of Christ in Terre Haute, Indiana for youth bible camp scholarships.
