Belva Jean Fleming

June 25, 1931 — July 6, 2024

New Castle

Belva Jean (McClure) Fleming died Saturday, July 6, 2024 at The Willows of New Castle. She was born June 25, 1931 to Chester and Ethyl McClure. Belva was a graduate of Mt. Summit High School. On May 25, 1950, she married Richard Fleming and they later had 3 sons.

Her family would describe her as overly generous and unintentionally hilarious with her sassy responses. She was always present, willing to have hours-long conversations in her living room or on the phone when you had a long drive. She graciously tolerated excessive teasing from her family and was always ready to dish it back just as bad. Belva was able to get away with anything she said or did. Her kitchen was always stocked with goodies, but if you wanted something different, she’d send you across the street to Marsh with money to buy what you wanted. If anyone left her house hungry, it was their own fault. She had many jobs she loved through the years, but her greatest joy was her family. Belva was a homemaker, caretaker, and babysitter. Her main hobbies included sewing, crocheting, and going to BINGO, but her biggest passion was spending time with her family, especially her 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Whether she helped them cook up something delicious, hosted family gatherings, or was just an ear to listen to their stories, she was an ever-present pillar in the lives of those who knew her. Belva was a selfless giver who refused to let anyone struggle alone, even strangers she’d see in public. If she saw someone hurting, she couldn’t resist stepping in and helping when possible. She was the epitome of love, support, and selflessness.

Belva was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard, her brothers Donald and Carl, and Carl's wife Kate.

She is survived by her sons, Michael (Robin) Fleming, Edward (Pamela) Fleming, and Richard “Dale” (Mandy) Fleming; her grandchildren, Teanna (Dustin) Garvin), Seth (Brittany) Fleming, Spencer (Samm) Fleming, Kelcie (Kris) Pennington, Sydney (Tyler) Dungey, Nikki (James) Fleming, Jordan (Derek) Vogelzang, Zach Smith, McKenzie (John) Salmon, Courtney Fleming; her great-grandchildren, Sophia Garvin, Lukas Garvin, Memphis Pennington, Rainier Dungey, Jack Fleming, Arabella Smith, Mason Salmon, and Deklan Vogelzang; her brother, William (Sherry) McClure; sister-in law Judy McClure; brothers-in-law James Fleming and Stan Sexton; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
