Benjamin H. O’Dell, age 88, of New Castle, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 6, 2011 at Glen Oaks Health Campus. He was born September 10, 1923 in Spiceland, Indiana to the late Benjamin and Martha (Cooksey) O’Dell.
He retired in 1987 from Dana Corp., formerly known as Perfect Circle Corp., after 44 years of service as a Project Engineer. He had formerly worked at DX Gas Station in New Castle. He was an active member of First Baptist Church in New Castle since 1950, where he served as a Deacon, Elder, Sunday School Teacher and Evangelism Chairman. He was a good and faithful servant, and to know him was to love him. He also enjoyed traveling.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years: Mary Catherine (Hiatt) O’Dell; 4 nieces: Carole Hiatt of New Castle, Deloris Puckett of Muncie, Gail Engle of New Castle and Sharon Harris of Huntington; a sister-in-law: Dorothy Hiatt of New Castle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters: Thelma Brown and Lillian Ledbetter and a niece: Diana.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 9 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverends Jack Hannum and Jerry Ingalls officiating. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 10-11:30 a.m. on Wednesday prior to services at the funeral home.
