Bernice L. (Tower) “Bernie” Hamilton, age 90, of New Castle, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at The Waters of New Castle. She was born September 22, 1921 in Henry County, Indiana to the late Charles E. and Anna Jane (Bartley) Baty.
A homemaker, she did ironing and alterations for many folks. She was a member of South Memorial Drive Church of God where she was active with the Karing Keenagers and WCG. She also belonged to Kennard Brotherhood and Sisterhood. A devout Christian lady, she was a good mother and loved her grandchildren. She enjoyed embroidering, crocheting, cooking and watching westerns on television.
Survivors include a son, Gary R. (wife, Deborah) Tower of New Castle; two daughters, Cheryl (husband DeWayne) Landreth of Hagerstown and Yvonne Tower Bundy of Greenfield; grandchildren, Chris Tower, Robert Tower, Anita Hamblin, Brenda Leddington, Faron Landreth, Shane Landreth and Adam McAndrews; step granddaughter, CaLinda Massengale; twenty great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter on the way; two sisters, Alma Franklin of Lawrenceville, GA and Mary Sheridan of New Castle; a brother, Paul (wife, Lou) Baty of New Castle; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her children, Curtis R. Tower; second husband, Richard Hamilton; brothers, Gene, Ralph, Joe, Charlie, and Tom Baty.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 27, 2012 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2012 at the funeral home.
