Bessie Sidwell

Bessie F. Sidwell, 74, of New Castle went to be with the Lord Thursday, August 6, 2009 at Henry County Hospital following an extended illness. She was born August 3, 1935 in Albany, Kentucky, a daughter of the late John Sherman and Georgia Ann (Guthrie) Appleby.

She worked in restaurants in the area including Falck’s Drugstore, Mary’s Restaurant, Jack’s Donuts and Hardees. She then retired as a K-5 teacher at Immanuel Baptist Academy in 2003. She was a member of Whittier Lane Baptist Church and former member of Immanuel Baptist Church for many years. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and cooking.

She is survived by three sons: Dr. Mark E. (wife: Mary) Sidwell of Greenville, South Carolina, Rev. Christopher C. (wife: Cheryl) Sidwell of Apollo, Pennsylvania and Rev. Randall A. (wife: Sabrina) Sidwell of New Castle; seven grandchildren: John, Anne, & Stephen Sidwell, all of Greenville, South Carolina, Jared & Jalen Sidwell, both of Apollo, Pennsylvania; and Ryan & Tyler Sidwell, both of New Castle; two sisters: Gleneve Robinson & Margaret (husband: Paul) Brown, both of Albany, Kentucky; three brothers: Ray (wife: Jane) Appleby of Albany, Kentucky, her twin brother, Jessie (wife: Frances) Appleby of New Castle and Kenneth (wife: Beula) Appleby of New Castle; and several nieces & nephews.

Beside her parents she was preceded in death by her husband: Charles E. Sidwell on March 12, 1998.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with her three sons Dr. Mark E. Sidwell, Rev. Christopher C. Sidwell and Rev. Randall A. Sidwell officiating. Friends may call from 3-9 p.m. Tuesday at Hinsey-Brown. Services will also be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 13, 2009 at Talbott Funeral Home in Albany, Kentucky with burial to follow in Cave Springs Cemetery in Albany, Kentucky. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m.Thursday until time of services at Talbott Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be given to The Protestant Alliance (mission work) with envelopes available at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.hinsey-brown.com .
