Bethel Mae Cable

Bethel Mae Cable, 91, of New Castle, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2011 in Jasper Memorial Hospital. She was born September 29, 1919 in New Castle the daughter of Daniel and Cora Mae (Alderman) Waltz.

She was an accomplished piano and organ teacher and played for numerous weddings and funerals. She was a faithful member of the First Church of the Nazarene where she served as pianist and organist for 70 years. She received numerous awards from the Local and District Church of the Nazarene. She and her husband traveled extensively in the U.S., Mexico, Canada, England, Holland, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal and Switzerland. Also, she participated in many work and witness trips to Dominican Republic, Portugal, Guatemala, Indonesia, Venezuela and Trinidad. She also was a member of the Avondale Sympathy Club.

Survivors include her husband of 73 years: Ivan J. Cable; two daughters: Janice Sue Collett of Selma, IN and Martha Ann (husband: Arthur) Hughes of St. Anthony, IN; seven grandchildren: Terry Annette Snider of Port Hadlock, WA, Cindy Elaine Snider of Indianapolis, Amy (husband: Jason) Ludwick of Muncie, Rev. Chris (wife: Linda) Hughes of Christman, IL, Patrick (wife: Debbie) Hughes of New Castle, Juliana (husband: Michael) Brewer of Oswego, IL and Andy (wife: Jamie) Hughes of Evansville; 21 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson: John Paul Hughes; a sister and brother-in-law: Ruth and Joe Horn.

Services will be at 1:00 PM Saturday, March 12, 2011 at First Church of the Nazarene in New Castle with Rev. Danny Goddard, Rev. Gary Cable and Rev. Chris Hughes officiating. Music will be provided by Larry and Phyllis Richards. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Friday, March 11 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle and 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to the First Church of the Nazarene Missions Fund. Online condolences may be expressed at www.hinsey-brown.com .
