Betty S. Carter, a cherished homemaker and beloved mother, passed away on March 30, 2025, at the age of 75. She was born February 3, 1950 in Indianapolis, IN to the late William and Flora (Roberts) McGowan.
Betty worked tirelessly as a homemaker, pouring her heart into caring for her boys and raising them to be good men. Her foundation was built on faith, as she attended services at the Christian Tabernacle Church and raised her children in its warm embrace.
She was a vibrant soul who adored travel and embraced adventure. Betty found immense joy in road trips, frequenting various locations with her girlfriends, exploring thrift stores, indulging in delightful restaurants, and creating memories along the way. Family gatherings were the heart of her existence; she loved being surrounded by her loved ones, doing puzzles and playing games, sharing laughter and creating connections that would last a lifetime.
The Christmas season held a special place in Betty’s heart. Each year, she eagerly anticipated celebrating the holidays, creating memories with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She took great pleasure in preparing thoughtful gift packages and crafting homemade treasures for each family member, ensuring that her love was felt in every unique creation.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of nearly 60 years, Mitchell E. Carter of Indianapolis, IN; sons David (Jennifer) Carter of Olney, IL, Johnny Carter (Marquette Tyler) of Indianapolis, IN, Anthony “Tony” (Missy) Carter of Clayton, IN, and Paul (Angel) Carter of Selma, IN; grandchildren Josh (Tyler) Carter, Heather (Josh) Carter, Kayla Lomas, Brianna Carter, Rebecca Carter, Lillian Carter, Joseph Carter, Jonathon Carter, Jessica Carter, Amanda (Spencer) Lawrence, Kristen Carter, Anthony “Dusty” Carter, Shelby Carter, Jasmine, Koty, and Shawn; great grandchildren Isaac, Eli, Nivla, Izzy, Willow, Killian, Amelia, Graham, Sierra, Miles, Alexa, and Belamy; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by sisters Dena Harris and Linda Henson; and brothers Ethus and Cletus McGowan.
Services will be at 5:00pm on Friday, April 4, 2025 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Pastor Kent Jordan officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00pm until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be given to Christian Tabernacle Church at 802 S Franklin Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46239.
