Betty H. Duncan, 88, of New Castle, the sweetest, most wonderful, Spirit-filled daughter of Christ, went home to be with her Savior Sunday morning, February 12, 2017. Oh what a celebration it was when the Lord took her hand and said, “Welcome home Betty!” Born March 5, 1928 in Monticello, KY to the late Luther and Nell (Marsh) Barrier, Betty was a lifetime faithful servant, and is now celebrating in His kingdom.
After graduating from Monticello High School in Monticello, Kentucky, Betty taught school in a one-room school house in Mt. Pisgah, Wayne County, Kentucky. On her birthday, March 5, 1947, Betty Barrier and John R. Duncan were married. After moving to New Castle, Indiana in 1952, she was manager of concessions for many years at the SkyDrome Theater. She also worked in sales for Baughman’s, Holthouse, and McGrady’s Furniture Stores. Later she was a real estate agent for Tri-Eden Realty in New Castle. She had attended First Baptist Church, Foursquare Gospel Church, and was a member of First Assembly of God in New Castle. She enjoyed cross-word puzzles, reading, and studying her Bible. Betty was an excellent seamstress, and also enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends.
She leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters, Karen (Tim) Preble of New Castle, Deborah Alderson of Evansville, and Jenni (Rex) Current of New Castle; grandchildren, Tom (Michelle) Preble, Kate (Gary) Studt, Mary (Ryan) Higgins, and Margaret (Josh) Richardson, all of New Castle, Carrissa (Wes) Byrd of Kenosha, WI, Caraline Current of New Castle, Aaron Alderson and Adam Alderson, both of Evansville; Jonathan (Theresa) Duncan of Indianapolis; sixteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Also, a sister, Marjorie Huffaker of Cross Plains, TN; a brother, Don Barrier of Hickory, NC; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, John R. Duncan; son, John Duncan; two sisters, Patricia Nolan and Jean Tuggle; four brothers, Ray, Joe, Hobart, and Bob Barrier.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday, February 17, 2017 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the funeral home with Pastor Stephen Gallaway officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery.
