Betty Jean Gray

Betty J. Gray, 78, of Hagerstown, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at Henry Community Health. She was born on June 9, 1946, in New Castle, a daughter of the late Floyd L. and Anna J. (Wolfe) Kessler.

A 1964 graduate of Walter P. Chrysler High School, Betty worked at Perfect Circle in Hagerstown for 27 years, and after its closing, retired from the Dana plant in Syracuse, IN, following over 30 years of service. After retiring, she worked at Ace Hardware in New Castle for many years, which she thoroughly enjoyed.

Kind-hearted, hospitable, people-loving, and a willing helper are a few ways Betty’s family describes her. She helped take care of grandchildren, her parents, and welcomed anyone in her home with warmth. She enjoyed playing cards with her family and attended the Congregational Christian Church in Hagerstown.

She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Steven L. Wilson of Hagerstown, David E. (Melinda) Goolsby of New Castle; four grandsons, Corey Wilson, Chase Michael Wilson, both of Hagerstown, Kyle (Savannah) Goolsby, and Tyler Goolsby, both of New Castle; great grandchildren; a sister, Carol (Melvin) Stults of New Castle; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Gray.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, March 3, 2025, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Rev. Larry Neal officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery in New Castle.
