Betty J. Helms, age 62, of Muncie, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at Ball Memorial Hospital. Although she had been in failing health for some time, death was unexpected. She was born June 29, 1949 in Knoxville, Tennessee to the late Jack and Mildred (Cagley) Helms.
She was a resident of Rosewood Manor in Muncie and enjoyed reading and knitting. She had attended Immanuel Baptist Church in New Castle.
Survivors include two brothers, Thomas (wife, Brenda) Helms of New Castle and James Helms of New Castle; nephew, Bradley Helms of New Castle; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, James F. and Ora M. Cagley; paternal grandparents, Wil and Viola Helms.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Brett Rains officiating. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2011 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312 with envelopes available at the funeral home.
