Betty Jean Irvin, 81, of Augusta, GA passed away Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at University Hospital in Augusta, GA. She was born February 7, 1931 in Flemingsburg, KY the daughter of Harlan and Lela (Christi) Phelps.
Betty worked as a house parent at the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Children’s Home and retired after 18 years. She enjoyed sewing and knitting.
She is survived by children: Thomas (Pam) Hawkins of Kokomo, Karen (Ben) Shaffer of Augusta, GA, Terry (Sylvia) Hawkins of New Castle, Jimmy Lee Hawkins of Augusta, GA, Dorothy (Charles) Tomlinson of Waynesboro, GA; a sister: Amy (Ed) Schweick of Chicago; grandchildren: Brian Sharp, Nathan Snyder, Jamie Hawkins, Becky Cridge, Sara Kim and Sabrina Hawkins; and several great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: George Irvin, her former husband: James B. Hawkins; and a daughter: Beth Ann Dietz.
Graveside service will be at 3:00 PM Monday, March 5, 2012 at Mt Summit Cemetery.
