Betty Rader McClerney

Betty Rader McClerney, 99, of New Castle passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at Harrison Terrace in Indianapolis. She was born May 3, 1923 in Mt. Summit, Indiana, a daughter of the late Harold Ivan and Grace Elizene (Williams) Rader.

Betty was a 1941 graduate of Mooreland High School and attended Purdue University. She was previously employed at Perfect Circle and Mooreland Bank. Betty was a life-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Rural Neighbors Extension Club. Betty was an 80-year member of the First Christian Church of Mooreland and was also a member of the Chicago Corner Christian Church. Betty was the church pianist and later in life took up playing the organ; she was very talented. She also led Bible classes and taught Sunday School. Betty was a very active person who cared for everyone. While residing at nursing facilities over the past several years, Betty enjoyed reading to the other residents and helping them in any way she could.

Betty is survived by her brother, Bob (Lillian) Rader of Mooreland; nieces and nephews, Steve (Gloria) Rader, Connie (Merrill) Mays, Danny (Betty) Rader, Mary Rader, Sharon (Alan) Lindsey, Vicky (Randy Kingsley) White, Ivan (Julie) Rader, Jeff Rader, Ken Rader, Larry Rader and Todd (Terry) Rader; many great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Chester McClerney; brothers, Lloyd and Howard Rader.

Services will be 1:00pm Monday, August 29, 2022 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Nathan Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in Brick Church Cemetery near Hagerstown. Visitation will be from 11:00am until time of service on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the First Christian Church of Mooreland or to a charity of your choice.
