Betty Jean Semler, 91, of New Castle passed away, Thursday, September 29, 2016 following an extended illness. She was born October 31, 1924 in Losantville, Indiana a daughter of the late George F. and Juanita M. (Cooper) Beeson.
A 1942 graduate of Mooreland High School, she was a member of Grace Baptist Church and Daffy Decum Club. Betty had worked as a secretary for Consumer Adjustment Services and Chrysler Corporation in New Castle. She had also worked at the Henry County Recorder’s Office and Indiana State House. Betty married William H. Semler on January 13, 1943 at Scott Field in St. Louis. They eventually moved back to New Castle, Indiana where they started a family.
Betty loved singing and even sang on the Chicago Radio Station with long time high school friend, Helen. She also sang with the group “The Singing Secretaries” of New Castle. Betty enjoyed all things musical and any thing chocolate. She loved playing the organ, trying new restaurants and playing euchre with family and friends. Betty Jean lived a long and happy life of 91 years and 11 months. Her family would like to thank everyone for their kind thoughts and prayers during this time, especially the staff at Glen Oaks Health Campus for all their kindness and care.
Survivors include a daughter, Georjean Cory of New Castle; son, Jeffrey Semler of Richmond; two grandsons, Scott of Pendleton and Clint New York, New York; four granddaughters, Kelly of California, Jamie of Fishers, Stacy of Kalamazoo, Michigan and Tammy of Indianapolis; four great grandchildren; Emily and Erica of Michigan and Lilly and Briella of Pendleton; brother, David Beeson of Dallas, Texas; aunt, Jane Newman of Fort Worth, Texas, who was like a sister to Betty; best friend and caregiver, Dottie Boulanger and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William Semler in 2000 and a son, Steven Semler.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 6, 2016 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Tom McGilliard officiating. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Condolences and memories of Betty may be expressed at
