Beverly Cooney

Beverly A. Cooney, age 67, of New Castle, passed away Wednesday, July 07, 2010 at her residence following an extended illness. She was born September 5, 1942 in New Castle to the late Leslie A. and Mary Lillian (Bell) Williams.

She was a 1960 graduate of Mays High School. She had worked in banking and worked in nursing homes in the area as a QMA. Beverly was very involved with the PTA at Weir and Eastwood Elementary Schools. She was the last PTA president at Weir and the first president at Eastwood Elementary School. She received a Lifetime Membership Award from the PTA. Beverly enjoyed all kinds of crocheting and she and her twin sister loved playing video games. She was an accomplished pianist, enjoyed cooking, playing practical jokes, working, and was an avid IU basketball fan. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 46 years, J. Darrel Cooney of New Castle; two children, Cynthia (husband, Bobby) Lenz and Scott Cooney all of New Castle; four granddaughters, Leslie, Tiffany and Misty Lenz all of New Castle, Cassidy Cooney of New Castle two great grandchildren, Robert Huesman and Alexis Smith; two aunts; several cousins; special friends, Paulette Garrett and Vickie Akers.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a twin sister, Barbara Gosser.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 12, 2010 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, July 11, 2010 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Christian Love Help Center, 402 S. 18th Street, New Castle, IN 47362, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
