Beverly Doe (Hardgrove) Thurston, age 78, of New Castle, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born October 10, 1935 in New Castle, Indiana to the late Henry and Grace R. (Means) Hardgrove.
Beverly was a 1954 graduate of New Castle High School where she played volleyball and basketball. She also was involved in the Radio Club and helped raise money to build the New Castle Fieldhouse. She retired from Dana Corporation following over 25 years of service. She loved being a mom and grandma and taking care of her grandchildren. Beverly had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening, she also enjoyed crocheting, gospel music shows, and was an avid fan of Judge Judy. She traveled with her brother and sister-in-law a couple of times to Las Vegas and found it very intriguing.
Survivors include her children, Stephen (Shawn) Thurston of New Castle and Donna Young (Mike Prenatt) of Wilkinson; grandchildren, Amanda Jo Young of Wilkinson, Emily Thurston, Jared Thurston of New Castle; sisters-in-law, Doris Hardgrove of New Castle and Christine Hardgrove of WV; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell W. Thurston; infant daughter, Rhonda Jo Thurston; grandson, Nicholas Thurston; brothers, Henry Hardgrove and Jerry Hardgrove.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Tim Glidden officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound cemetery.
