Billy Joe Goad, age 64, of New Castle, passed away, Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at IU Medical Center in Indianapolis. He was born May 17, 1944 in New Castle, Indiana to Dillard Frank and Willie Marie (Lawson) Goad.
A veteran of the United States Army, he served in Germany during the Vietnam War and retired from Firestone Corporation in 2001 after 34 years of service. He was a strong union member of the Steel Workers of America. He attended the Christian Pilgrim Church in New Castle. He enjoyed traveling and visiting flea markets and also was a collector of old radios.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years: Violet L. (Carroll) Goad of New Castle; a daughter: Donna (husband: Mark) Smith of Spiceland; a son: Billy D. (wife: Misty) Goad of New Castle; three grandchildren: Adrienne Michelle Ellis, Kyle James Ellis and Kailei Joe Goad; his parents: Dillard and Willie Goad of Tennessee; former son-in-law: James Ellis of Spiceland; three sisters: Casteen (husband: Phillip) Wickliff of Springport, Virgie Bach of New Castle and Jeani (husband: Greg) Hall of Tennessee; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law: Jerry Bach.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 11, 2008 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Steve Woodshare officiating. Burial will follow in Batson Cemetery.
