Carolyn Dorene Young

Carolyn Dorene Young, age 68, of New Castle, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at 3:10 AM after a fourteen month battle with lung cancer and COPD. Dorene was born in Albany, Kentucky on August 10, 1948, to the late James R. Dickerson and Maggie Lou (Malone) Dickerson.

Dorene was a former employee of Westwood Country Club in New Castle and “Our Daily Bread” in Muncie, Indiana. A message on Facebook, sent the morning of her death by a niece in Austin, Texas, best describes Dorene: She would tell you like it is and then hug you. Dorene worried about everyone and everything. Her heart was bigger than her pocketbook. She worked her fingers to the bone, smiled through the pain, and loved her family so much. Dorene was baptized in New Castle on June 21, 2016, by the Rev. Tony Kimbler of Muncie, Indiana. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Roy R. Young; sons Brian (Karen), Timothy, and Christopher, and daughter Melissa Young Owens; grandchildren Allison Brooke Owens, Trenton J. R. Owens, and Savanah Lee Young, all of New Castle. Also surviving are three sisters: Nadine (Ray) Hacker, Kathy Willoughby, and Rita Dickerson; two brothers, Cordell and Ernie Dickerson, all of New Castle, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Dorene was preceded in death by her parents; her father and mother in law, John R. and Gertrude Young of New Castle; and a brother, Billy Gene Dickerson.

Services will be at 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 3, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle, with Rev. Charles Dugger and Rev. Tony Kimbler officiating. Burial will follow in New Lisbon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM Saturday, September 3, at the funeral home.
