Charles E. Davis

Charles E. Davis, 79, a resident of New Castle passed away Wednesday evening, March 7, 2012 at Henry County Hospital. He was born February 9, 1933 in New Castle, a son of the late Russell J. and Lora M. (Tungate) Davis.

A lifelong New Castle resident, he retired from the State of Indiana in 1997 where he had been employed as a carpenter foreman for 13 years. He had also worked at Modernfold Corporation for 17 years. Mr. Davis was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a member of the New Testament Church of Christ in Hagerstown. He enjoyed woodworking, flying his airplane, spending time with his grandchildren and playing with his dog, Herc.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Barbara J. Davis, whom he married June 6, 1953; a daughter: Patricia C. (David) Yergin of New Castle three sons: Charles “Ed” (Betsy) Davis, Jr. of Hagerstown, George “Rusty” (Marta) Davis of New Castle and James M. (Melinda) Davis of Mooreland; grandchildren: Garon (Amber) Davis, Kirk Davis, Jonathan (Jenny) Yergin, Laura (Tyler) Oyer, Michael Yergin, Tabatha (fiancé, Wes Clark) Davis, Ashton (Bobby) Belt, Tanner Davis; great granddaughter: Charlotte Rose Yergin; sister-in-law: Jerri Davis; aunt: Mary Stacy of Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Donald R. Davis.

Services will be at 11:00 AM Monday, March 12, 2012 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Paul Gearhardt officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Summit Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-6 PM Sunday, March 11 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Testament Mission Team with envelopes available at the funeral home.
