Charles Griffith

Charles Richard Griffith, age 66, of Vevay, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, October 21, 2009 in King’s Daughter’s Hospital in Madison. He was born August 28, 1943 in Greenfield, a son of the late Charles Arthur and Elizabeth Louise (Milliner) Griffith.

He worked as a heavy equipment operator for several years with several companies in the Indianapolis area and also with INDOT. He was a past member of the Eagles and Elks Lodges in Greenfield. A member of the Riverview Baptist Church in Vevay, he enjoyed building furniture, riding his motorcycle, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a friend to everyone, loved helping people in general and unselfishly raised two of his grandsons, Jacob and T.J.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Evelyn Kaye (McCorkle) Griffith, whom he married June 29, 1963 and who resides in Vevay; two daughters, Missy (husband, Randy) McVay of Pendleton, and Mindy (husband, DeWayne) Estell of Knightstown; six grandchildren, Mandy (husband, Josh) Smith of Greensboro, Bradley Roberts (companion, April Wright) of Greenfield, Jimmy McVay (companion, Amanda Blevins) of Anderson, Brian McVay of Pendleton, Jacob Griffith (companion, Paige Kelly) and T.J. Griffith, both of Vevay; five great grandchildren, Jarrett and Allison (his little princess) Smith, Avery Roberts, Hayden and Harmony Blevins; two brothers, Roger (wife, Barbara) Griffith of Greenfield, Carl Michael (wife, Becky) Griffith of Warrington; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Griffith; a great grandson, Gavin McVay; three brothers, Thomas, Bill, and Jimmy Griffith; a sister, Sally Jane Moore; his in-laws, Ernest and Mary McCorkle.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 26, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Pastor Joseph Lamson officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Sunday, October 25, 2009 at the funeral home.
