Charles Heard

December 12, 1932 — July 25, 2010

Charles “Charlie”, “CJ” Heard, passed away and went to be with the Lord Sunday, July 25, 2010 at Kindred Hospital in Indianapolis. He was 77 years old at the time of his passing and had lived in New Castle for the past 52 years. He was born December 12, 1932 in Franklin, GA the son of the late Charles and Eddy Rae (Embray) Heard.

He owned and operated a paving company for over 40 years and had worked for the city of New Castle. He also worked for Morris Chevrolet, Yellow Cab and Mickey’s Taxi. He loved to spend time with his family (especially his grandchildren) and his friends. He never met a stranger, always had time for everyone and always had a story to tell. His famous past time was fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Allegra “Toni” Heard formerly of Marion, IN; children, Gary (wife, Melanie) Heard, Dee-Howard (husband, Dana) Davis, Charlotte Heard (companion, Mike) all of New Castle, Dianne Howard and Tina Howard both of Columbus, OH, Andy Howard (companion, Linda) of Indianapolis, Donnie (wife, Shelia) Stallworth of Kennesaw GA, Joanne Shivers of GA, Garry Heard, Larry Heard (fiance, Sandy), Linda Heard and Bernice Robertson all of Dayton, OH; adopted child, Martha Coatie Hamrick of New Castle; grandchildren, Jared Heard, Destiny Heard, Anthony Gulley, Nicole Rankin, Ari Barry, David LeMock, Mustapha Barry, LaQuita Heard, Zinda Heard, Timothy “TC” Perkins, Jana Killman, Joseph Durdan; adopted grandchildren, Jalone Malone and Christian Hamrick; fourteen great grandchildren; a brother, Leonard Heard; sisters, Mozella Hardy of Dayton, OH, Retha Reynolds and Either Strickland both of Carollton, GA; an aunt Bessie Young of New Castle that he dearly loved and cherished; special friends, Martha McWilliams and Willie Campbell, Jr.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Johnny B. Heard and an infant son. He will be greatly missed by all. He was a father, grandfather and friend to many.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Bethany Tabernacle, 402 S. 18th Street, New Castle, IN, Pastor John Fonzer, Sr. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday, July 30, 2010 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Memorial contributions may be given to the Christian Love Help Center, 402 S. 18th Street New Castle, IN 47362 with envelopes available at the funeral home.
