Charles Ronald "Ron" Murray

Charles Ronald “Ron” Murray, 82, of Shirley received his eternal reward on Monday, August 22, 2022 at The Rawlins House in Pendleton following a brief illness. He was born March 29, 1940 in Spiceland the son of Charles and Ruth Patty (Anders) Murray.

Ron was a lifelong resident of Henry County. After graduating from Spiceland High School he attended Purdue University. He retired from Navistar Corporation in 1989 after 30 years of service. Upon retirement he worked in his son Keith’s business, Midwest Presort Service. In 2000, he opened Murray Marketplace in Shirley, a home style restaurant and gift shop. He enjoyed featuring concerts by national and local gospel music groups at the restaurant and at the farm. Ron was a member of Greensboro Church of the Nazarene where he was song leader for many years and in recent years attended Fortville Church of the Nazarene. He composed over 300 songs and traveled with his family singing for churches and concerts. He was president of Henry County Gideons and founder and president of Indiana Percheron Association, showing a 6-horse hitch in State Fairs across the Midwest and Canada’s Stampede.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 61 years, Nancy (Fannin) Murray whom he married October 15, 1961; three children, Rhonda (Mike) Brown of Shirley, Keith Murray of Magnolia, KY and Scott Murray of Mechanicsburg; seven grandchildren, Gehrig and Jessica Brown, Kadyn, Jace, Kynleigh and Jude Murray, Nathaniel Santana; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Annetta Santana; three brothers, Herbert, James and Donald Murray.

Services will be at 10:30 AM Friday, August 26, 2022 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Pastors Gene Bennett, Phil Edwards and Andrew Phipps officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
