Charles Rose

Charles L. “Rocky” Rose, 85, of Spiceland, passed away suddenly on Sunday, January 3, 2010 at Heritage House Convalescent Center. He was born February 3, 1924 in Roane County, TN, a son of the late Charles Leonard and Dollie Genetta (Mullins) Rose.

A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he was a professional musician, appearing on radio and television broadcasts in the 1940’s and 1950’s and also had completed several professional recordings. During these times, Rocky was privileged to “rub elbows” with many music stars. He later managed several music stores until he and a friend, Jim Dalton opened Rocky’s Music Center in Muncie, which they successfully operated for several years.

Rocky was also a licensed auctioneer and conducted several high profile auctions in the area. After receiving his insurance license, he worked as an agent in the area for several companies, specializing in life insurance. During this time, he also worked for Lingle Real Estate as a Realtor. Rocky was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in New Castle and the New Castle Masonic Lodge.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Lucie Rose of Spiceland, six children, Gary D. (wife, Rita) Rose of Markleville, Darryl F. Rose of Brick, NJ, Carryl L. (husband, Tony) Jones of North Vernon, Charles L. “Chuck” (wife, Ginny) Rose of North Vernon, Jeffrey L. (wife, Patty) Rose of Fishers, Mary L. (husband, Eric) Mendenhall of Eaton, OH; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; one brother, Ralph J. Rose of Spiceland; five sisters, Geneva Mullikin, Mary Lee Woods, Geraldine Stephens, Colleen Barnes, and Bobbie Wright; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Dwight A. Rose, and a brother, John Rose.

Services will be at 1:00 PM Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Father Joe Rautenberg officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Friends may call from 11:00 AM until time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the St. Anne Catholic Church Building Fund 102 N. 19th Street New Castle, IN 47362. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
