Charline (Oxley) James

Charline (Oxley) James, 98, a resident of Mooreland passed away Saturday, April 2, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family singing hymns of praise. She was born February 24, 1918 in Blountsville to the late Alvin and Ethel (Keesling) Oxley.

Charline married Charles L. James in October, 1939 and resided in the Blountsville/Mooreland area for 59 years, until Charles’ passing in 1997. Charline continued living at the family farm until her passing, having made this her home for 74 years. A homemaker, baker, cake decorator and caterer, Charline also enjoyed farming alongside her husband, building a successful dairy farm, Hy-Vu Farms, raising chickens and gardening. She also built a very successful catering business with her family where for 30 years she was able to see to the needs of many brides-to-be and their wishes for a lovely catered reception.

Charline was a 67 year member of the Blountsville UMC and UMW a 31 year member of The Garden at Gethsemane UMC. She was a 71 year member of the Macra Na Fierma Farm Couples Group and a member of Stony Creek Home Ec. Club for over 50 years. Charline served and was involved in the 55 Alive Senior Minstry at Gethsemane UMC where she actively prepared and cooked for large crowds well into her 90’s. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the staff of IU Health Ball Memorial Hospice program. They were ‘angels’ as they were attending Charline with such loving care. They are a very gifted and called group of people.

Survivors include a daughter: Phyllis (John) Battice of Mooreland; daughter-in-law: Judy James (Max, deceased) of Mooreland; brother: Virgil (Naomi) Oxley of Warren; four grandchildren: Steve James of Scottsburg, Kim (Mike) Dickerson of New Castle, Ellen (Rusty) Skinner of Daleville and Jennifer (Stephen) Swim of Mt. Summit; six great grandchildren; one great-great grandson and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, She was preceded in death by a son: Max James; a grandson: Jeffrey Battice; great-grandsons: Nathanael and Zachary Dickerson and a great-granddaughter: Elizabeth Dickerson.

Services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at Garden at Gethsemane UMC with Reverends Vickie Perkins and Jon Reece officiating. Burial will follow in
Blountsville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 5 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle and from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to the Garden at Gethsemane UMC, 1201 W. McGalliard Rd, Muncie, IN 47303 or to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospice, 2401 University Ave, Muncie, IN 47303.
