Charlotte M. Groce, 73, of New Castle passed away Friday, January 15, 2016 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. She was born September 27, 1942 in New Castle, a daughter of the late Burl A. and Mellie F. (Lowe) Williams.
A lifelong resident of New Castle, Charlotte graduated in 1961 from Walter P. Chrysler High School. She loved helping others, especially children as a substitute teacher and aid at New Castle Chrysler High School. Charlotte had taken college courses at Butler University and Ivy Tech and eventually received her teacher license. Charlotte retired after 25 years of service from BMG in Indianapolis and had also been employed by PK Lumber and VAL Discount Center. Most of all, Charlotte loved her grandchildren, family, and was married to the love of her life, Bill Groce, for 55 ½ years. She enjoyed capturing thousands of photographic memories, of friends and family, from everyday life to special occasions. Charlotte was always looking for the best in people and never said a negative word about anyone.
Charlotte is survived by her son, Bill (Peggy) Groce Jr. of Losantville; daughter, June (Jim) Marshall of Hagerstown; grandchildren, Brandon (Patricia) Groce of Hagerstown, Brittany Groce of Losantville, Jimmy and Jarred Marshall both of Hagerstown; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Bill Groce on December 31, 2015; a son, Frankie Dean Groce and a brother, William Williams.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Paul Gearhardt officiating.
