Cheryl Shumaker Howard

Cheryl Loretta (Shumaker) Howard, age 63, of New Castle, went home to be with the Lord while surrounded by her family, Monday, November 15, 2010 at her residence due to courage battle with cancer. She was born May 16, 1947 in Richmond, Indiana to Leroy Charles and Bettie Louise (Burlison) Brant.

She had attended the Nettle Creek Church of Brethren in Hagerstown and enjoyed being her mothers care giver. She also enjoyed gardening, shopping and her dogs.

Survivors include her mother, Bettie Louise Brant of New Castle; sons, Timothy Shumaker of Richmond, Dion (wife, Ann) Shumaker of West Alexander, OH and Derick (wife, Trava) Shumaker of New Castle; daughter, Dawn Shumaker (spouse, Tammy Watson) of Eaton, OH; fourteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sister, Carol (husband, Larry) Alcorn of Phoenix, AZ; brothers, Errol (wife, Marlene) Brant of Greensfork and Terry Brant of Cincinnati; special uncle, William (wife, Ann) Burlison of Richmond; special friends, Sarah and Bill Reiblein of New Castle, Jackie Shannon-Smart of New Castle and Denny Hobson of Cowan; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Leroy Charles Brant; first husband, Donald Shumaker; her second husband, Edward Howard; a son, Donald Lee Shumaker, Jr. and a brother, Jay Brant.

Cheryl"™s family would like to thank Patty Wenning and the entire staff of Henry County Hospice for their wonderful and exceptional care.

Services will be at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Tom and Wendy Canon officiating. Friends may call from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home. A carry-in dinner will follow the service at the funeral home.
