Christena "Tena" Dee Jones

December 8, 1950 — December 20, 2022

Christena "Tena" Dee Jones passed away on December 20th 2022 after a brief and unexpected battle with an aggressive cancer. Born on December 8th 1950 in Indianapolis, she moved with her parents Rulo and Deloras "Dee" Jones to Knightstown Indiana where she established friendships that would last a lifetime.

Tena was active in the Girl Scouts, Rainbow Girls and spent her summers lifeguarding at the Sunset Park pool. She attended Butler University after graduating from Knightstown High School in 1969, and was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She was an accomplished accountant, working for the State of Indiana at the Soldiers' and Sailors' Children’s Home and the Reformatory in Pendleton, before finishing her career with Ford Motor Company as a proud member of UAW 1111.

Tena enjoyed Arts and Crafts, including calligraphy, ceramics, porcelain dolls, stained glass and welded projects. Like her father before, Tena was a diehard Ford enthusiast and could regularly be seen driving her purple 5-speed Mustang GT convertible around town. She took great pride in her hard work to restore her home of almost 40 years, the Dayton Heritage House, built in 1866 and listed on Knightstown's National Register of Historic Places inventory. She enjoyed sports immensely, and was a fan of the Indianapolis Colts, Cincinnati Reds and St. Louis Cardinals. She was a loving surrogate mother to stray pets in need of a home, and a second mom to many coworkers and friends of her sons. She will be remembered by all for her kindness, thoughtfulness, gift giving and selflessness when it came to helping others.

She is survived by her sons Jacob Harris and Nathan (Amy) Harris; grandchildren Kayla Wagner and Timothy, Rebecca, Elijah, Abigail, Isaiah, Savannah Harris; and step-grandchildren Audrey Marcum and Christopher Harris. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Jessup Harris, daughter-in-law Tricia Harris and granddaughter Mary Harris.
