Christopher Troy Groce, 45, of Knightstown, went to be with the Lord on May 3, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. He passed peacefully with family and friends at his bedside. Chris was the son of John T. (wife: Carol) Groce, Jr. and Don and Barbara (Hiatt) Weaver of Mooreland.
Born October 20, 1966, Chris was a 1985 graduate of Blue River Valley High School, received his Bachelor of Arts from Concordia University and his Master’s Degree from the University of West Alabama. He was employed by St. John’s Health System Anderson Center as an addictions counselor and supervisor. Chris loved music, was an avid musician and loved spending time with his family and friends.
Chris married Tracey Christine Edwards on May 17, 1997 and was the father of three sons: Taylor Glenn Groce of New Castle, John Morgan Groce and Colin Maxwell Groce of Knightstown. In addition to his parents, wife and sons, Chris is survived by his maternal grandfather: Max Hiatt of Mooreland; his mother-in-law: Millie Edwards of Knightstown; lifelong friends: James Houser of Mooreland, John Guy and William “Bud” Rains of New Castle; several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends too numerous to mention.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother: Madge Hiatt of Mooreland; paternal grandparents: John T. Sr. and Jocia Groce of New Castle.
Services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, May 7, 2012 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Richard Thayer and Anthony Darling officiating. Cremation will follow the funeral service. Friends may call from 2:00-6:00 PM Sunday. You may express a condolence or share a memory of Chris at
