Clara Johnson

Clara Johnson, age 91 of New Castle, passed away Monday, March 8, 2010 at Glen Oaks Health Campus. She was born September 10, 1918 in Carter County, Kentucky to the late Allen and Bessie (Parrish) Cline.

She retired as Coordinator of Volunteer sewing groups at Henry County Hospital after 35 years of service. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren, working in the yard, sewing and reading her bible. She was the oldest charter member of North 14th Street Church of God for 63 years. Clara taught Sunday school for many years and she and her husband were instrumental in helping building the church. They also helped with the Knightstown Church of God.

Survivors include her four children, Joy Tinsley of New Castle, Dolly (husband, Doug) Sutherland of Brookville, IN, Ray Johnson of Muncie and David (wife, Deborah) Johnson of Florida; daughter-in-law, Helen Johnson of New Castle; twelve grandchildren, Larry Mogg of New Castle, Scott Tinsley of TN, Dougie Sutherland of New Castle, Bill Sutherland of New Orleans, Julie Duvall of MO, Kim Clemons of Spiceland, Lisa Bevans of Spiceland, Allen Johnson of New Castle, Debra Trieschman of New Castle, Mike Johnson of Greenfield, Lori Sorrell of Greenfield, Shanna Broyles of New Castle; seventeen great grandchildren, Maren Perdew, Michelle Mogg, Zach and Karly Tinsley, Brian and Kenny Clemons, Jason, Eric and Kalie Bevans, Josh and Justin Johnson, Janelle Lephew, Brandon Trieschman, Cristen and Colten Duvall, Hattie and Lucy Broyles; eight great-great grandchildren, Isabelle and Parker Perdew, Jennalyn and Jaycie Bevans, Callie Bevans, Jacob and Jaiden Johnson and Nathanial Allen Lephew; a brother, Charles "G.C." Cline of Morehead, KY; sisters-in-law, Barbara Cline of Mansfield, OH and Betty Cline of New Castle; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Farris Johnson; a son, Bill Johnson; son-in-law, Calvin Tinsley; great grandson, Will Broyles; great-great granddaughter, Paige Clemons; four brothers and four sisters; sister-in-law, June Cline.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverends Elwood Evans and Phil Brown officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00 pm. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 12, 2010 at the funeral home.
