Clayton Ray (C.R.) Staton, went home to be with his heavenly Father on Saturday, July 20, at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle, GA. Mr. Staton was born in Bath County, KY on January 21, 1923 to the late Russell Clyde and Ona Morton (Jones) Staton.
He served in the Army, in the Pacific Theater, during WWII and made New Castle his home with his wife, Nancy, after returning to the States in 1946. He retired from the Chrysler Corporation in 1974 after 30 years of service and owned Staton’s Mobile Home Service Repair. He was a member of the South Memorial Drive Church of God and was active in Babe Ruth baseball. He was a member of the Breakfast Optimist Club and was selected as Optimist of the Year in 1995. He was an honorary Kentucky Colonel and a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by Nancy, his wife of 67 years, two daughters, Mrs. Greg (Kay) Conn of Monroe, GA and Mrs. Rick (Susan) Davis of Sebastian, FL, a son, Jim (wife Barbara) of Indianapolis, IN, two sisters, Mrs. Helen Singer of Cambridge City, IN, and Mrs. Mary Snedigar of New Castle, 7 grandchildren; Chris Conn (Lisa) of Atlanta, GA), Kelley Conn of Bethlehem, GA, Kevin Conn (Angel) of Bethlehem, GA, Kristi Lankford (Barry) of Dallas, GA, Jeremy Staton of Indianapolis, IN, Julie Jones of Indianapolis, IN, and Kase Holmes (Melissa) of Orlando, FL, 18 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle, Thursday, July 25, from 4-8pm. Funeral Services will be held at the South Memorial Drive Church of God on Friday, July 26, with viewing from 12-1 and funeral at 1:00. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memory Gardens in New Castle. Military rites will be conducted by the local VFW and American Legion and an active duty contingent of the United States Army.
