Daniel Clayton Conway

July 20, 1941 — December 7, 2023

Daniel Clayton Conway, 82, of New Castle, passed away Thursday, December 7, 2023 at The Addison Place in New Castle. He was born July 20, 1941 in New Castle, a son of the late Clayton M. and Marjorie Helen (Beeson) Conway.

A 1959 graduate of Walter P. Chrysler High School in New Castle, he attended Indiana University. Dan was a proud hammer man at Chrysler Corp in New Castle, retiring after 30 years. After retirement, he served as Henry County Councilman at large, helmed the Wilbur Wright birthplace foundation, and served on the EDC and other local government committees and boards.

He was a life-long member of First Christian Church in Mooreland, Mooreland/Hagerstown Masonic Lodge, and Scottish Rite, and a member of Rotary Club.

As a third-generation auctioneer, Dan owned and operated Conway Auctioneers, started by his grandfather in 1910. He enjoyed bird hunting with his English Setters, fishing, model rocketry, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was heavily involved in 4-H his entire 12 years of school, and enjoyed playing games, especially Euchre. He also mastered the craft of Maple Syrup making, and to this day his family only uses real Maple syrup! His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he cherished his time with them.

Dan’s family would like to thank The Addison Place for their unending love and support during his stay there. Also, to his special friend, Dottie Long, who gave him friendship, love, and guidance when needed the most.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his three sons, Tim (Suzanne) Conway of Frederick, CO, Scott (Julie) Conway of Farmland, and Nathan (Lara) Conway of New Castle; grandchildren, Holly (Nathan) Hawkins of Avon, Katherine Conway of Frederick, CO, Autumn Conway of New Castle, Jason Conway of Frederick, CO, Clayton Conway of New Castle, and Crystal Conway of Frederick, CO; sisters in law, Jo Anne Pierce and Judy Lauer; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Beth L. Conway in 2019; a daughter in law, Tracy Conway, sister, Marcia Kay Caine, nephew, John Caine, and brothers in law, Wally Caine, Bob Lauer and Kent Pierce.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m., December 12, 2023 at First Christian Church in Mooreland with Pastor Nathan Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Monday, December 11, 2023 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle and an hour before the service at the church.
