Dannie Warren Barber, age 80, of New Castle, passed away Friday, April 19, 2013 at Henry County Hospital. He was born April 6, 1933 in Albany, Kentucky, to the late Herlan G. and Nancy O. (Pemberton) Barber.
A United States Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, he retired from GM (Delco Remy) in Anderson in 1990 following 24 years of service and was formerly employed at Chrysler Corporation for 10 years and Firestone Corporation for 5 years. He was also a member of UAW #662. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, served on the church board, was a delegate and Sunday school teacher. He enjoyed collecting antique cars, fishing, wintering in Florida and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Ida Barber of New Castle; daughter, Kim (husband, Hayden) Ooten of New Castle; son, Nathan (wife, Rhonda) Barber of New Castle; six grandchildren, Danielle (husband, Daniel) Chew, Laura (husband, Greg) Leffler, Jennifer (husband, Matthew) Murdick, Hayden C. Ooten, Rachel (husband, Richard) Rewerts and Nicholas Barber; two great grandchildren, Jillian Chew and Ethan Chew and one on the way; brother, Gayle (wife, Oleta) Barber of Byrdstown, TN; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Lester, Earl and Freelan Barber and two stillborn brothers, Otis Gess Barber and Jimmy Lee Barber; a stillborn daughter, Nancy Leona Barber.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 22, 2013 at the First Church of the Nazarene in New Castle with Reverends Danny Goddard and James Mowat officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2013, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle and one hour prior to the service at the church.
