Darlene Strong

Darlene P. Foster Strong, age 58, resident of New Castle, passed away Sunday, November 22, 2009 at Glen Oaks Health Campus following an extended and courageous battle with cancer. She was born August 28, 1951 in Columbus, Indiana a daughter of the late Paul Foster and Betty Tolliver Foster Stockton.

She was a 1969 graduate of New Castle High School and had resided in New Castle most of her life. Darlene married Herman L. Strong on July 5, 1969 in New Castle, celebrating their 40th anniversary this year. She was very active in the PTA for many years while her children were in grade school. She loved to play the piano and taught students from her home. Darlene retired from the Indiana Department of Correction in 1998 at the onset to her illness.

Survivors include her husband: Herman Strong; a son: Aaron (wife: Tracy) Strong; two daughters: Chianti (husband: John) Guy and Amanda Strong; five grandchildren: Adam Guy, Tiana Guy,Kaylea Strong, Kennedi Strong and Auriah Lindsey all of New Castle; a sister: Geavonna (husband: Louis) Shelton of New Castle; three brothers: John Foster, Paul Foster, Jr. and Terry Foster; a sister: Joyce Foster Allen all of Virginia; mother-in-law: Geraldine Strong of New Castle; many cousins, nieces, nephews friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her mother in 1979 and her father in 2005; a special step-dad: William “Sam” Stockton in 2002; father-in-law: Gene Strong in 1999.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Paul Wenning officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery.
