David O. Bowers, 86, of New Castle went to be with the Lord Saturday, February 16, 2013 at his home. He was born May 17, 1926 in Greenback, Tennessee, a son of the late Joseph and Ida Mae (Rogers) Bowers.
A World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, he retired from Chevrolet Transmission in Muncie after 26 years of service. David was a member of First Assembly of God and attended Glad Tidings Church in Muncie. An avid bowler, he received many awards. He loved watching IU Basketball.
Survivors include his wife of eleven years: Emogene (Wolfe) Bowers; one daughter: Phronzy (husband, Steve) Slocomb of New Castle; three sons: Keith (wife, Pam) Bowers of Anderson, Mark (wife, Vicki) Bowers of New Castle, Terry (wife: Tavvy) Bowers of Durango, Colorado; step children: Jim Upchurch (companion, Vivian) of New Castle, Darlene (husband, Larry) Thompson of New Castle and Connie (husband, Ed) Privett of New Castle; step daughter-in-law: Cathy (husband, Ed) Stevenson of Indianapolis; grandchildren: Tressa Slocomb (companion, Bob Carver), Tonya (husband, Allen) Douglass, Michelle (husband, Fred) Spinks, Adam (wife, Misty) Bowers, Meghan Bowers (companion: Lee), Mark (wife, Risa) Bowers II, Gee Bowers, Travis (wife, Lorie) Bowers, Ryan Bowers, Clancy Collins, and Frank Denny; fourteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild, seven step grandchildren; six step great grandchildren; special little friend Lexie; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.;
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Imogene Bowers in 2000; three brothers, five sisters; stepson: Len Upchurch; and a step great grandson: Johnny Upchurch.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastors Kevin Holt & Coleman Barlowe officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 4-8 Wednesday at the funeral home.
