David O. Etchison

David O. Etchison, 89, New Castle passed away Thursday, December 31, 2015 at Glen Oaks Health Campus in New Castle. He was born November 14, 1926 in Alexandria, IN to the late U. Ogden and Anna Louise (Bosley) Etchison.

David was a 1944 graduate of Alexandria High School and received a Basketball Scholarship to play at Indiana University. He also attended Butler University and graduated from Ball State University in Muncie. David was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He was also a lieutenant with the U.S. Naval Reserves. David retired from Firestone Corp. in Noblesville with over 30 years of service. He had also owned the Hearthstone Restaurant in Muncie and was a franchise owner of Sonitrol Security Systems in New Castle during the 1970’s. A member of the Westwood Country Club, David also belonged to the New Castle American Legion, Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite. He was an avid golfer, Boston Red Sox fan and loved his pet cat, Trudy. He especially loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife: Mary Billingham; three daughters: Nicolette (Frank) Schuler, and Andrea Helm, both of New Castle, and Renee Sloan of Fort Wayne; a granddaughter: Leigh Sloan of New Castle; a brother: Richard Etchison of Florida; three nephews: William (Michelle) Alt of Columbia City, Steven (Amy) Alt of Anderson, and Kenneth (Denise) Etchison of Columbus, OH; a niece: Cynthia Etchison of Florida; sisters-in-law, Roselee Etchison, Anne (Charles) Brophy and Jean (Mark) Billingham; brother-in-law, James (Nancy) Billingham; and numerous cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister-in-law: Rosalee Etchison.

Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Mark Herbkersman officiating. Entombment will be at Green Hills Memory Gardens at a later date. Visitation will be from 2 – 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Military Rites will be conducted by the New Castle American Legion and VFW, as well as a contingent from the US Army.
