David Jay Thompson, 50, of Spiceland passed away unexpectedly Saturday, August 27, 2011 at his residence. He was born January 7, 1961 in Henry County to Paul and Helen (Smith) Thompson.
David was a former member of the Spiceland Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed fishing, working in the yard and was an avid NASCAR fan. He was formerly employed by Chrysler for 5 years, Metaldyne for 5 years, and 19 ½ years at Draper Shade. David attended Spiceland United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, David is survived by his wife, Deborah (Moore) Thompson of Spiceland, daughter, Chelsea Thompson of New Castle, son, Tyler Thompson of Spiceland, sister, Barbara (Steve) Steele of Spiceland, in-laws, Don and Sue Moore, brother-in-laws, Jay Dee Moore (Penny), Tony Moore all of Knightstown, nephews, Michael Steele (fiancé, Sherry Davis) of New Castle, Austin Moore of Knightstown, niece, Mandy Burkman, great niece, Kaleigh Burkman both of Spiceland, several aunts, uncles and cousins, special friends, Tim and Margie Carter of Lewisville.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Clarence and Mabel Smith, paternal grandparents, Edgar and Hazel Thompson.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Carol Wiley officiating. Burial will follow at Brick Cemetery in Hagerstown. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Henry County Cancer Society with envelopes available at the funeral home.
