Dean “Beaver” VanSlyke, Jr., 57, passed away unexpectedly in his home Friday, February 28, 2020. He was born February 13, 1963 in Bloomington, the son of W. Dean and Wanda (Owings) VanSlyke Sr.
A 1981 graduate of Mooresville High School, he held several positions in Medical Warehousing in Bloomington. He attended the First Pentecostal Church in Bloomfield. He enjoyed playing basketball and fishing.
He is survived by his children, Jonathon (Amanda) VanSlyke of Terre Haute, Rachel VanSlyke of Corinth, MS, Bethany (Cory) Stevenson of Speedway, and Jason VanSlyke of Avon; grandchildren, Jacinda and Jaylon VanSlyke, both of Mitchell, Kevin VanSlyke of Corinth, MS, and Lillian Stevenson of Speedway; his father, Rev. W. Dean VanSlyke Sr. of Bloomfield; a sister, Terri Dillery of Indianapolis; two brothers, Kevin (Chris) VanSlyke of Mooresville and Kenny (Becky) VanSlyke of Mooresville; the mother of his children, Becky VanSlyke of Avon; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Wanda (Owings) VanSlyke; maternal grandparents, Rev. Wallace and Esther Owings, and his paternal grandparents, Conduff and Eunice VanSlyke.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Rev. W. Dean VanSlyke officiating, assisted by Pastor Benson Mason. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Knightstown Chapel. Burial in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Dean “Beaver” VanSlyke Memorial Fund, in care of the funeral home to assist with expenses.
