Dean Pitchford

Dean L. Pitchford, 87, of New Castle, passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at The Waters of New Castle. He was born February 12, 1937, in Benton Harbor, Michigan, a son of the late Carl Lester and Clara E. (Wagner) Pitchford.

Dean graduated high school in Benton Harbor, Michigan and earned a bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering from Michigan State University. He served in the U.S. Navy Reserves.

He came to New Castle to work for Diamond Containers. He also worked for Perfect Circle in Hagerstown, and Happy Homes T.V. and Appliances in New Castle before retiring from Thompson Consumer Electronics in Marion. He had also worked at Boeing when he lived in Seattle.

He was a Past Exalted Ruler at The Elks in New Castle, was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Sulphur Springs, Shriners, and Scottish Rite. He obtained his private pilot’s license and enjoyed flying his plane for many years. An avid golfer, Dean enjoyed working on televisions and loved computers, and anything technology.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his two sons, David (Elizabeth) Pitchford of New Castle and John (Kathy) Pitchford of Springboro, OH; grandchildren, Stuart Pitchford of Knoxville, TN, Alexandra (Cole) Hauser of Pine Village, IN; Dr. Jillian Pitchford of Richmond, and Kate Pitchford of Cincinnati, OH; two great grandchildren, Cooper and Lindy Hauser, both of Pine Village, IN.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of over 55 years, Sandra Jean Pitchford in 2012, and a brother, Wayne Pitchford.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 7, 2024, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m., Saturday, prior to the service. Burial will be in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given to the Henry County Community Foundation at Henrycountycf.org.
