Debby K. Weidert

Debby K. Weidert, 60, of New Castle, passed away December 9, 2011 at her residence. She was born October 6, 1951 in Ypsilanti, MI the daughter of Donald Gill of Canton, MI and the late Iris (Kelly) Gill.

Debby graduated in 1973 from Northern Michigan University with a BA in Home Economics. Debby first came to New Castle in 1978, as a manager of the local K-Mart. She led an active volunteer life here in New Castle over the years, serving as past president of both the Henry County Art Association and New Castle Henry County Public Library. Debby was a passionate reader, and her interest in books led her to volunteer at Eastwood Elementary’s reading program and create a book club at the local youth detention center. Debby was also active in the Agenda Club and helped found the PEACE Organization that advocated for the rights of children with disabilities. In her spare time she also enjoyed knitting.

She is survived by her husband: Steven Weidert of New Castle; two sons: Jonathan (wife, Kathy Matthews) Weidert of Canton, MI; Christopher (wife, Krista) Weidert of New Castle; brother: Ronald (wife, Roxanne) Gill of Canton, MI.

She was preceded in death by her mother: Iris Gill and daughter: Katherine Weidert.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, December 17, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church in New Castle with Reverend Rex Espiritu officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Henry County Community Foundation - Weidert Art Fund with envelopes available at the funeral home.
