Del Alan Baker, age 57, of New Castle, passed away Monday, April 2, 2012 at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born January 26, 1955 in Lafayette, Indiana to Willard W. “Bill” and Ruth I. Baker.
Del attended Shenandoah High School and Indiana University. He loved his country and was a veteran of the United States Army, Army Reserve and National Guard. He was currently employed by Bill Baker Insurance Agencies, Inc. as maintenance supervisor. He enjoyed his time with Future Soldiers of America teaching young children survival skills. He loved his nieces and nephews, playing poker, gardening and painting pictures. Del was very knowledgeable and enjoyed history and was very good at playing Jeopardy. He enjoyed traveling all over the world especially to Germany and had lived in Alaska and Las Vegas, Nevada.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, Mark (wife, Melanie) Baker of New Castle; sister, Kimberly S. Baker Ondras of New Castle; nieces and nephew, Heather (husband, Donnie) Reimer of Greenfield, Erik (wife, Jessica) Baker of Fishers, Whitney (husband, Matt) Turner of New Castle, and Jessica Ondras of Muncie, very special friend: Judy Mathis of New Castle; good friend, Michael “Crip” Highmiller of New Castle; several aunts, uncles, cousins and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his nephew, Ryan Ondras; maternal and paternal grandparents.
Graveside Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2012 at Gardens of Memory in Muncie with Pastor C.J. Buskirk officiating. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2012 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
