Delano H. Atkinson

June 13, 1930 — February 23, 2011

Delano H. Atkinson, 80, of New Castle, passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at his residence. He was born June 13, 1930 in Clinton County, KY the son of the late William J. and Edra (York) Atkinson.

Delano was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was retired from road construction. He enjoyed fishing, feeding humming birds and finches, gardening and especially growing tomatoes. He liked all sports and was an I.U. basketball fan. He enjoyed visits from his friends and family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by two step-daughters: Marisa (husband: Blake) Anderson of Indianapolis and Kimberly (husband: Gregg) Fowler of Murfreesboro, TN; grandchildren: Joshua Atkinson of New Castle and Candace Atkinson of New Castle; five step-grandchildren: Radnor Fowler of Murfreesboro, TN; Michael Huckaby of New Castle; Joshua S. Storms of Rushville; Justin Storms of Greensburg; Kayleigh Storms of New Castle; one great grandson: Khalon Waters of New Castle; brothers: Leland (wife: Mary) Atkinson of New Castle; Donald (wife: Estella) Atkinson of New Castle; former daughter-in-law: Sherry (husband: Larry) Storms; brother-in-law: Joe Perdue of Lewisville; several nieces an nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons: Darrell Atkinson and Marty Joe Atkinson; a sister: Gail Perdue.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, February 28, 2011 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Jim Becker officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, February, 27. Military rites will be provided by the local American Legion and VFW. Memorial contributions may be made to Henry County Cancer Society, with envelopes available at the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.hinsey-brown.com .
