Delmer Sam "Shane" Ferrell

Delmer Sam “Shane” Ferrell, age 82, of New Castle, entered eternal rest, Monday, June 17, 2013 at his residence. He was born July 3, 1930 in Albany, Kentucky to the late William S. and Margarette Massengale Covey Ferrell Applebe.

Delmer married the love of his life, Virginia J. Davis on January 1, 1955 in New Castle, Indiana. They had 44 happy years together until Virginia lost the battle with cancer. They owned Ferrell Recycling for 35 years. He had worked for Dann Brother Recycling. He often talked about building State Road 3 and the New Castle Field House. He loved to garden and was proud of the large sweet potatoes he grew. He enjoyed the days when he could take his special needs daughter on car rides to get a happy meal and lottery ticket. He also enjoyed “loafing around” talking and joking with everyone and going to Albany, Kentucky.

He is survived by his daughter, Regina (Reverend Harrison) Braswell; a sister, Mable Milton of Albany, KY; two brothers, Gus Ferrell and Ed Ferrell of Indianapolis; grandsons, Derrick Braswell and Michael Ferrell; granddaughters, Dannielle (Craig) Zell, April Bailey and Barbara Ferrell; two great grandsons, Jeremy and Braydon Bailey; a great granddaughter, Kaylee Ferrell.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara J. Ferrell; son, Delmer Duane Ferrell; two close brothers, George “Curly” Ferrell and Homer Ferrell; also brothers, Elmer Ferrell, Caleb Ferrell, Jim Hart, William Ferrell, James Ferrell, and Charlie Ferrell; a great grandson, Michael Shane Ferrell.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2013 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Harrison Braswell officiating. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. before the service. Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association, 50 E 91st ST STE 100, Indianapolis, IN 46209-4830 with envelopes available at the funeral home.
