Delores Swindell Irwin, age 93, passed away on March 2, 2017 at Glen Oaks Health Campus, surrounded by her loving family and devoted friends. She was born August 30, 1923 in New Castle, Indiana to the late Horace Edgar and Indiana Bell (Hatfield) Swindell.
Delores was a life-long resident of New Castle, and had retired from Chrysler Corporation in 1981. She attended the Dunreith Christian Church.
Delores loved to decorate for all the holidays. She was known for her baking, knitting and oil painting. She gave painting lessons to many from her home. A graduate of New Castle High School, class of 1941, Delores had also been active in reunion planning for her graduating class.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Jane Ann Irwin (Pam Wade), of Delphos, Ohio. Also, nieces Sherrie (Colin) Duncan of Palm Springs, California, Katie Swindell of New Castle, and Jennie (Carlos) Campbell of New Palestine, Indiana. She has one nephew, Thomas (Victoria) Ritenour of Valley Center, California, as well as a great nephew, Charles Boyle of Nineveh, Indiana.
She is also survived by her amazing caregivers and close friends, Debbie Imel (Debbie McCutchen), who helped add much joy and sunshine to her life.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Irwin, her very special sister-in-law, Mary (“Auntie”) Matthew, as well as her siblings, Gerald Swindell, Joy (Swindell) Boyle, Bonnie Jean (Swindell) Ritenour, and Richard Swindell.
Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Monday, March 6, 2017 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 7 at the funeral home with Rev. James Nichols officiating. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery. You may express condolences for Delores at
