Dixie Sue Royer

Dixie Sue (Acton) Royer, 85, a resident of New Castle passed away Monday, January 6, 2025. She was born March 12, 1939 in Henry County to the late Bert Eugene and Thelma May (Minnick) Acton.

A graduate of New Castle High School, she was voted prom queen runner-up during her senior year. During her teenage years, she worked at Kresge Dept. Store in New Castle. Dixie later worked at the Beaver Tree and sold Home Interior Decorations and Mary Kay Cosmetics. She and her husband, George, were married on December 6, 1958 by Rev. Ray Pavy at First Baptist Church in New Castle, their marriage lasted 64 years until Georges passing on June 7, 2023.

Dixie was a member of Mooreland Friends Church and also attended Park Place United Methodist Church in New Castle. She enjoyed playing cards in a local card club along with gardening and planting flowers. Dixie loved hosting all types of get-togethers, especially for holidays when she would cook a wonderful meal with her memorable banana pudding for dessert. She also hosted graduation parties for all her grandchildren’s graduations. Dixie never knew a stranger and would do anything for anyone. Above all, family was the most important thing to Dixie, and she loved spending time with them.

Survivors include two daughters: Brenda Watkins and Georgia (Kevin) Muncy, both of New Castle; Grandchildren: Autumn Muncy of Carthage, Lyndsie (Aaron) Neal of New Castle, Krista (Chris) King of Greenfield and Breanna (Charles) Stephens of New Castle; great-grandchildren: Mason and Jacob Fields, Serenity and Jaxon Rogers, Kynzlie and Maddax Neal, Hazel King, Hadlee Muncy, Cambreigh and Adelynn Stephens; sister: Judy (Charles) French of Mt. Summit, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister: Betty Troxell; four brothers: Donald, Willard, Joe, and Bert Jr. Acton and an infant sister: Gloria Jean.

Private services will be held at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Josh Robertson officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. You may express condolences or share memories of Dixie at www.hinsey-brown.com.
