Dollie L. Sweigart, 86, a resident of New Castle went to be with the Lord Early Sunday morning, May 20, 2012 at the Waters of New Castle following a brief illness. She was born September 5, 1925 in New Castle to the late Jesse and Nora Mae (Bledsoe) DeArmond.
When she was young, she worked at Morris 5 & 10 cent store and Newberrys in downtown New Castle. After she married, she worked at the Bargain Barn in New Castle for a few years, then at the New Castle State Hospital where she retired in 1990. Dollie was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church in Spiceland and was saved and baptized in 2003 at the age of 78. She was devoted to her family and loved traveling and spending time with them. She was very generous and loving and loved singing her favorite song, “I’ll Fly Away”.
Survivors include her children: Jennifer (husband: Larry Delon of Hagerstown, John, Jr. (wife: Alice) Sweigart and Randall Sweigart, both of New Castle; one sister: Shirley (husband Gary) Davis, two brothers: Gale (wife Ruth) Gregory and Stephen Gregory; grandchildren: Angela (husband: David) Willis, Shane (wife Julie) Delon, John Sweigart, III, Karrie Harless (fiancée: Aaron Meal), Li (husband: Gary) Mingle and Allison Sweigart; great grandchildren: Caleb and Jacob Willis, Kain, Kewanne and Kailey Harless, Chase and Garrett Mingle; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: John Sweigart, Sr. in 1966, her step-father: Hobert Gregory; a brother: Drexell Gregory; two sisters: Dorothy Harrison and Ella Mae Kennedy; two sisters-in-law: Lois Gregory and Jeraldine Gregory and two brothers-in-law: Bill Kennedy and Fred Harrison.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Rev. Larry Delon, Rev. Steve Gregory and Shane Delon officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at the funeral home.
