Dolores "Jean" Schmeisser, age 74, of New Castle, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born January 8, 1939 in Ashland, Kentucky to the late Elijah and Hannah K, (Patterson) McPeek.
She was formerly employed at Ashland Daily Independent Newspaper and had been a teacher's aide at Greenstreet School in New Castle. She was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church, where she was a Eucharist Minister, a member of the St. Anne Society, Mothers Club of St. Anne and Sunday Religious Education teacher. Jean was also a member of AARP, a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi, and a volunteer at Henry County Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed being a grandma, gardening, reading, embroidery, pencil art, and she never met a stranger. She was active in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF).
Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Richard Schmeisser; children, Barbara S. (Andrew) Budek-Schmeisser of New Mexico, Glen A. (Kelli) Schmeisser of rural Shelby County and Gregory (Janet) Schmeisser of New Castle; five grandchildren, Kristen, Ross, Kate, and Rebekah Schmeisser, and Taylor Aldridge; a great granddaughter, Aida Kellams; a sister, Garnet Marie Damico of Ashland, KY; a niece, Mary Lisa Damico; great nephew, Justin.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Frank Damico.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 13, 2013 at St. Anne Catholic Church with Father Joe Rautenberg officiating. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 12, 2013 St. Anne Catholic Church, with a prayer service being conducted at 2:30 p.m. Private burial will be in St. Anne Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that you take a mutual friend out for a meal and share how Jean touched their lives.
