Donald “Don” K. Dalton Sr., 83, of Greensboro, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at The Willows of New Castle. He was born on December 26, 1941, in Albany, Kentucky, the son of the late James Marion and Elva Elizabeth (Cooksey) Dalton Jr.
Don was known as one of the kindest and sweetest men around, always wearing a smile and never complaining. He deeply loved his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he adored and enjoyed spoiling rotten. He took great joy in attending their sporting events over the years.
A talented woodworker and a knack for fixing anything, Don crafted many beautiful items, including cabinets, shelves, rocking horses, and cradles; he of course shared these items with his family. His proudest project was building the home where he and Barbara lived from the time they were married until her passing.
In July 1999, Don retired from Chrysler Corporation following 30 years of service. He had a passion for bluegrass music, loved playing the guitar, and was particularly fond of his Dodge truck. He also enjoyed gardening, with a special love for growing tomatoes, as well as mowing his yard and camping. He and Barbara were members of The Wagoneers church camping group. Don was a faithful member of Greensboro United Methodist Church.
Don is survived by his children, Donald (Mary) Dalton Jr. of Knightstown, Marcy (Rodney) Brenneman of New Castle and Jessica Plank (significant other, Scott Van Hoy) of Knightstown; grandchildren, Erica Dalton (significant other, Sheena Moore) of New Castle, Sydney (Cory) Smith of Dunreith, Jordyn Plank of Knightstown; great-grandchildren, Mia and Maverick Smith of Dunreith; siblings, Sue Niles of Hamilton, Ohio, Ralph (Roxie) Dalton of Greensboro and Ida Reynolds of New Castle; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Dalton; brothers, Jesse Dalton, David Dalton (his twin), and Keith Dalton; and an infant sister, Deborah Gay Dalton.
Services will be held at 10:00am Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel with Pastor Steve Arnett officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00pm to 7:00pm Friday the 21st at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to Raintree Square Retirement Community, 2820 S. Memorial Dr. New Castle, IN 47362.
