Donald "Don" Eugene Marsh

Donald “Don” Eugene Marsh, 88, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Henry County Community Health. He was born on April 9, 1936, in New Castle, Indiana, the son of the late Estill and Mable (Smith) Marsh.

Don was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, wood cutting and simply being outside whether mowing grass or trimming trees. He had a deep compassion for animals and never turned away a stray whether it was a dog, cat, turkey, deer or bird, they always found a meal at Don’s house.

A 1955 graduate of New Castle High School, Don played basketball during his school years. He retired in 1996 from Chrysler Corporation following 32 years of service and had also worked for Hoosier Diamond Container in New Castle. He was a proud veteran of the Indiana National Guard. Don enjoyed watching sports, but above all, he cherished spending time with his family.

Don is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Lorraine Marsh of New Castle; sons, Roy Marsh of Greensboro and Travis Marsh (Ashley) of Morristown; grandchildren, Mariah (Cody) Curnutt of New Castle, and Stormy (Franklin) Elliott of Greensboro, Macklin and Gavin Marsh of Morristown; great-grandson, Zane Elliott; brother, Phil Marsh of New Castle; as well as several nieces, nephews, and many special friends.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his brothers, Larry “Rusty” Marsh and Mike Marsh; sister, Patsy Ballard; daughter-in-law, Debbie Emmons Marsh; sisters-in-law, Sharon Marsh and Gwen Ratcliff; brother-in-law, Donald Mike "Mickey" Ballard; granddaughter, Kara Marsh.

Don’s family would like to extend a special thank-you to New Castle EMS, Henry County Hospital, and his dedicated friends and caregivers Jared and Kaleigh Carter and Lonnie and Teresa Nation for their kindness and support.

Services will be held at 1:00pm Monday, February 24, 2025 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday the 23rd from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Steve Jones Kids Fishing for Life, Henry County Community Foundation with envelopes available at the funeral home.
