Donald M. Gabbard, age 79, of Pendleton, passed away Friday, July 12, 2013 at his residence. He was born May 2, 1934 in Anderson, Indiana son of the late Grace (Pursley) Youngs.
He retired from Outokumpu Steel in 1999 following 34 years of service as crane operator and inspector. Donald lived with farmers in the Charlottesville area to play basketball for Charlottesville High School where he graduated in 1952. He served in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1956. In his free time Donald enjoyed playing golf and watching IU Basketball. Most importantly, Donald recently decided to give his heart to the Lord and now walks with the Lord for eternity.
Survivors include his wife, Linda M. (Cook) Gabbard of Pendleton; daughters, Rhonda (Richard) Essert, Mona Gabbard of New Castle, Amy Gabbard (Tina) of Noblesville and Holly (Marc) Farrer of Pendleton; grandchildren, Kristina and Hannah Essert, Kyle and Katelynn Gabbard all of New Castle, Dawson and Sydney Farrer of Pendleton; siblings, Dorothy Hackleman of Avon Park, FL, Cecil “Buck” Youngs of Pendleton, Richard Youngs and Keith Youngs of Sulphur Springs.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Margaret Cook Carpenter.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Jr. Maloyed officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery.
